There is Life after Retirement

By Penny Menzies

When I was younger the word 'retirement' made my blood run cold. To me it sounded like the end of everything that was fun and enjoyable.

Now that I am quite old I find retirement has so much to offer. Since I retired my horizons have expanded, I have visited so many places, met so many different people, seen so many lovely sights that it feels as though real life is just beginning. Since retiring I have spent the years house sitting and this has given me the chance of living in places I could never have lived in during my working life. Some have been wonderful, some have been not too brilliant, but all have had their interest.

Retirement has allowed me to indulge my passion for reading, for listening to music, for long, slow walks in the country, and for ferreting around on the internet for information on anything that takes my fancy.

There is no way I would change my life to be a slave to the alarm clock each morning, to waiting longingly for the week-end to arrive. Every day is now the week-end!

Three cheers for the retired life!

Thank you for sharing this information on life after retirement, Penny.
Being a senior, puts a different spin on what's important in our short lives.
Keep up the good work.
Best wishes.

I have heard it said that AARP actually stands for "Always Active Retired People".
